great for romney right now. but the race could change five times between now and election day, especially we haven't had the debate. the media is sort of wishful thinking trying to write off romney and i normally do not buy into the media that the media is completely on board on one side, this is the exception, this campaign season has been especially egregious in terms of them ignoring things bad about president obama and obsessing over things that are-- that mitt romney has done wrong. >> rick: cal, why? >> why? you have to ask why? >> i have to ask. >> oh, my goodness. well, first of all, these polls, we have talked about this before on the show. i'm opposed to news organizations doing their own polls and making news from them. what are you're going to see ten days, two weeks before the election, the story line, hey, the race is tightening because they want ratings and they want to sell newspapers, but these things are a sophisticated form of fortune telling. i passed on the way to the studio, a psychic, i almost said stop the cab and let me see who is going to win the el

and renewed enthusiasm in terms of investing? >> that's right. the romney campaign has been tweeting all day long about how much money they raised. donations were coming in every couple of seconds i think is what the romney campaign calculated because of the performance that mitt romney put in last night, and keep in mind, you were talking about the adjustments, jessica was talking about the adjustments the president's going to make. i get the sense from talking to several folks inside the romney campaign, and most notably the debate sparring partner himself, rob portman, that they are going to be sticking to this idea, this approach of a tough debate prep, intense debate prep. i think we will be seeing mitt romney going back behind closed doors with rob portman on several occasions over the coming days to make sure he is just as sharp for the next debate. i talked to portman about this last night. he's sort of the debate whisperer now. he said oh, no, his work is not finished until these debates are wrapped up. >> i like that. debate whisperer. fascinating to be a fly on the wall in both de

four years. >> the people having a hard time right now are middle income americans. under the president's policies, middle income americans have been buried. they're being crushed. >> romney was loose and managed to all but call the president an immature fibber without being rude. >> governor romney's central economic plan calls for a $5 trillion tax cut. on top of the extension to the bush tax cuts. >> i don't have a $5 trillion tax cut. i don't have a tax cut. of a scale that you're talking about. i will not reduce the share paid by high income individuals. i know that you and your running mate keep saying that and i know it's a popular thing to say with a lot of people burks it's just not the case. look, i got five boys, i'm used to people saying something that's not always true. >> health care, romney was on offense, touting what he passed in massachusetts as an example of a bipartisan compromise and a model for the whole country at the state level. >> we've seen this model work really well. in massachusetts because governor romney did a good thing, working with democrats in the sta

, and it's worth less too. >> right. the value of the dollar is falling considerably under president obama because of all the money printing he's done. >> the money printing that ben bernanke has done. >> supporting the treasury and borrowing by obama. what romney understands, david, and president obama is clueless about, there's a big difference between tax credits and tax rates. cutting tax rates gives you incentive to invest in plant and equipment which then allows you to hire people, because you're going to get to keep an extra amount of money on each dollar of profit you make. cutting tax credits does not hurt incentive, because tax credits are temporary and does not encourage investment. >> steve, i want to keep it on the simplification, because that's success i can identify with. i haven't my own taxes in a long time. the reason is, because it's just too complex. i'm not a small business. if i was a small business, i'd have to do devote hundreds of hours of time, a lot of money, to figuring the thing out. >> that's right. the irs has figured out, david, that last year we spent 6.5 b
